Where Writers Become Authors

Barbara A. Besteni, Publisher "Publishing Your Passion:  A Step-by-Step Guide To Self-Publishing, Marketing, And Distributing "How-To" Information" writes her story as follows:

"I've been homebased for almost 12 years now.  During that time, I took a slight detour and tried moving my business into an office.  After two years, however, I could no longer justify paying rent on a commercial space that cost almost 3 times what I was paying monthly on the mortgage on my condo... especially since I didn't have (or want) walk-in traffic!  I then made the decision to buy a home, build a video production studio and office in that home, and the rest as they say, is history.

Five years later things have changed a little bit.  I've traded the video production business for a self-publishing and marketing business that's completely internet based, and I do a lot of traveling giving workshops and speaking at seminars about self-publishing and marketing.

My business was completely financed on credit cards (something I don't recommend) and personal savings.  Today I operate on a cash basis, own all my equipment, and the only debt I have is the mortgage on my home.

Because the internet is growing at such a rapid pace, and electronic publishing is also growing in popularity, I'm truly excited about the growth potential of my business.  My goal is to run it from anywhere in the world with a laptop computer, a phone line, and an internet connection as the only required tools for my virtual office.

This past Summer I took a two week vacation and experienced just how close I am to my dream.  Right before I left, I released my first electronic book.  It was wonderful to check my e-mail each morning and see orders for that book being processed and fulfilled electronically while I drinking a cup of coffee on the terrace of my condo in Palm Springs.

Perhaps I'm no longer a home-based business owner after all... since my business is no longer confined to my home office.
