Trade shows are industry specific fairs. A trade show is open to the manufacturers and users of a particular product or service. Shows can be as short as one day or as long as a week or more. (The toy show in New York City runs 10 days.) Show frequency can be seasonally, (every spring and fall, like the gift shows, yearly (like CES) or every two year or even three years. (Like Pack Expo)

Trade shows can be produced by industry associations, or trade publications for the particular industry.

In America shows are "closed" that is, the show is not open to the general public. Only members or people associated with a particular industry are allowed to register and attend the show. In Europe, quite often trade shows are open to anyone who pays the admission fee.

To attend a show, you can contact the show management and request registration information. The registration information will give you the dates, time and cost to attend the show. The registration form will also tell if you need to send any supporting information (like tax id number or press credentials) along with the completed form.

In regards to your specific inquiry about the C.E.S. show. C.E.S. is held yearly in Las Vegas. It is usually held the second week in January. It lasts for three days. There are exhibits at the Convention Center and at some of the hotels. It usually has a draw of 20,000 people. Admission for members of the trade is usually about $50.00. The profile of exhibitors for the Consumer Electronics Show are manufacturers of small electronic devices such as TVs, VCRs, personnal security systems, Cellular products. etc.
